Coral Sea Cable Company inaugural board meeting

Another important milestone for the Coral Sea Cable has been met, with the newly formed Coral Sea Cable Company meeting for the first time.

The Coral Sea Cable Company will operate and maintain the Coral Sea Cable into the future, with Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands each represented by directors in the company.

Meeting in Port Moresby, Coral Sea Cable Company directors Keir Preedy (Solomon Islands), Lindley Edwards (Australia) and Paul Komboi (PNG) discussed technical, governance and reporting requirements for the ongoing management of this important trilateral development and infrastructure project.

The meeting took place as the Coral Sea Cable System and the Solomon Islands Domestic Network both prepare to be launched to consumers through retail wholesalers in early 2020.

“The Coral Sea Cable will be transformative to Solomon Islands and PNG’s connectivity,” the Directors said.

“We look forward to seeing the significant opportunities for business, digital skills and integration into the global marketplace it will bring for both countries.”

Australia has provided the majority funding for the Coral Sea Cable, with PNG and Solomon Islands governments jointly contributing up to one third of project costs.

Once operational, PNG and Solomon Islands will majority own the international cable and receive all revenue generated; Solomon Islands will also own the domestic cable and all revenue generated.
